Lavaring Story Chapter 2
---------------------
“So! Uh...what are we gonna call ourselves?” asked LavaringX.
As the six Creations walked through the remaining part of FantasyLand undisturbed, X began to think. It was only a short time ago that the wise monk-king and Guardian of FantasyLand, Sagea, sent the band of wandering heroes on their quest, after telling them the harrowing tale of the evil Dark Lord, who had returned and was gaining strength. While attempting to attend the annual “Festival of Creativity”, a young, half-werewolf girl named Candaru discovered a boy who went by “LavaringX”, and had no memory of his past. Sagea noticed that, embedded within the crystal on his chest, there was a symbol representing the Lava Ring, the object that all creativity flowed into ImagiNation through which granted all Creations life. Sagea hypothesized that recovering X’s emory was the best bet of possibly finding a way to defeat the Dark Lord, and thus Foxichick, the leader of the six Creations, set out to do just that, accompanied by her allies Fanwizard, Indigo, and MCgamer, as well as Candaru and LavaringX, who had recently joined up with them.
However, at the moment, X was more concerned with socializing with his new allies than anything else. Although he knew little of the world of ImagiNation and how it worked at the time, X felt that it was important to bond with his teammates.
“I was thinking something cool, like the ‘Hero Creations’ or something like that, what do you guys think? Is it cool?” X asked happily.
The noble dragon-warrior Fanwizard. “Well, as we are exploring this fair land of ImagiNation on our quest, I would suggest the ‘Imaginauts’, does that sound good?”
MCgamer just laughed in response.
“How about the Wanderers of ImagiNation?” Candaru suggested.
The Mechanical shot an “Uh, NO!” look at her in disapproval. “If we’re going to try and strike fear into the hearts of these ‘Destroyers’ like that Savedge guy, we’ll need to get a little more intimidating than THAT.” stated MCgamer.
“We don’t really need a team name to make our enemies fear us,” Foxichick justified. “I don’t think our little gang needs a name at all, really.”
“Well...what do you think, Indigo?” asked X.
Indigo, “The Silent Swordsman”, felt no need to weigh in on the conversation, however, he decided to humor his teammates just for the sake of it.
“We could call ourselves the Fellowship of the Lava Ring.” he mused.
“Oh yeah, because that’s totally original.” MCgamer said sarcastically.
“It DOES seem somewhat familiar...” agreed Candaru.
The debate continued for a rather long time, and it wasn’t until a good 40 minutes later that the group realized they were heading towards the forest and, quite frankly, had no idea which direction to go next.
“Ok…” Candaru started. She wasn’t sure exactly what she was going to say, but she needed something to break the silence. The sky at the moment was a beautiful blur of colors, but she knew it wouldn’t be long until it was completely dark and gloomy. Candaru saw the forest up ahead, and knew it would lead into HorrorLand, as it was where she originally came from.
Foxichick looked around the forest several times. “Ok, guys,” she started, “we came from over there, and I don’t think anyone knows where to go next.”
“Well, I have this tool thing that comes up if I type ‘direction’ into my search, is that helpful?” X asked eagerly. Foxichick raised an eyebrow curiously.
“I didn’t realize you had access to accessory tools, X. I don’t know if it’ll be helpful, what’s it called?”
“Uhh… it’s called a Global Positioning System. It has these weird marks that look like the forest!” He responded. MCgamer rolled his eyes.
“You need to actually download it out here so the rest of us can take a look?” he said.
“Oh! Right,” X said hurriedly, and brought it out so everyone could see.
“Whoa…” Candaru muttered.
The ‘Global Positioning System’ was a virtual map that seemed to shift slightly whenever the group moved. MCgamer tinkered around with it a bit and managed to get it to zoom out to show all of ImagiNation.
“Well, whaddya know. It does look helpful,” he mused. “Look, I think we’re supposed to turn this way… There, now that red arrow is facing Horrorland. And hey, we aren’t even that far away from the edge of the forest! We’re getting pretty close now!”
“Wonderful! Then it must be decided we shall move swiftly to Horrorland,” Fanwizard exclaimed.
“Horrorland… right,” Candaru grumbled. “Those forests sure won’t be any better than these ones are.”
“Why, Candaru, isn’t that your homeland?” Fanwizard asked. “I would assume it would be, unless you were a Beastian. That would make sense as well...”
The young girl rolled her eyes. “I only just left my homeland, like, what, three days ago? To walk to the festival. Which didn’t turn out as planned. But...yea. HorrorLand is my home...”
“Ah, well…” Fanwizard attempted to come up with something to cheer her up. “Perhaps you’ll run into an old ally- maybe even one that can aid us in our quest to save Imagination!”
“I highly doubt it,” she sighed. “All my colleagues in Horrorland were either not fit to be there- AKA girly and prissy- or beat-em’-up rough kids who were always looking to pick on somebody.”
There was an awkward pause in the conversation as Candaru looked down at her feet. By looking at them, one would think she was wearing socks, but she was indeed barefoot. She wasn’t even sure what species they came from- Candaru had so many of them in her even her technical labeling of ‘reverse-half-werewolf’ was extremely vague in regard to her specific genes.
X broke the silence. “Well, it’s too bad that you didn’t have any good friends, but maybe-“
She cut in briefly, again trying not to sound impolite. “No, no, it’s not that I didn’t have any good friends. Just, none of them lived in Horrorland. In fact-” she turned to Foxichick- “Maybe you’ve heard of a Nekoneko named Feline?” Her werewolf ears perked up a little at the thought.
“Unfortunately, I haven’t,” Foxichick sighed. “Sorry…”
“Ah.” Candaru’s ears drooped back down. “That’s alright.”
“I hate to interrupt, but it has been bothering me that we never settled the debate about what we shall call ourselves as a group,” Fanwizard cut in.
“I’m sure we’ll come up with a good name eventually. How ‘bout the Lavaring Team?”
“That works for now.” said Foxichick. “This isn’t the first time we’ve tried to come up with a name, right, guys?” she laughed.
MCgamer only grunted in response.
“So, when did you guys decide to start this whole saving-the-regions business?” X asked. “Since ya mentioned this isn’t the first time you’ve tried coming up with a name...”
In response to the young program’s previous question, Foxichick said, “Well, officially, I think it’s been… about a year now, right? That was when we met Fanwizard, he joined us most recently. Technically, MCgamer and Indigo have been traveling with me longer than that, but we didn’t really attempt to try and stop bad guys until we met him. Oh, how time flies...” She looked to her comrades for approval.
“Has it really been that long already?” Fanwizard mused. “My former days as a bodyguard, and then a mercenary, seemed to drag on forever. But I find myself thoroughly enjoying your company, and time seems to go quicker when I am traveling with you all,” he said, looking around at all the other “hero Creations.”
“That’s wonderful,” MCgamer said, somewhat sarcastically. “Real sentimental. Now can we talk about something actually interesting?”
Foxichick rolled her eyes and punched his shoulder-pad lightly. “Come on, try to be more polite when we have guests with us. I know you can be.”
“Oh, well, I wouldn’t consider ourselves guests-“ Candaru started, attempting to be polite.
“Yea!” X cut in. “I’ve got this feeling that we’re gonna be the BEST of friends!”
“X!” Candaru groaned. Foxichick merely shook her head and laughed at the boy’s excitement.
“Well, one can never have too many friends,” she responded.
“You’re very tolerant of him,” Candaru noted. Foxichick laughed once more.
“Well, I do have the advantage of experience, seeing that I have to deal with these guys all the time…” she teased, sticking her tongue out at MCgamer.
“Hmmph.” he said. “YOU have to deal with US. I see how it is...”
They all at once seemed to realize that they had by this point left the castle grounds and were heading into a deep forest of Fantasyland, which was bothering Candaru very much earlier.
Nervous about the dark shadows that seemed to pass through the trees ahead, Candaru asked, “Fantasyland’s woods are only going to have happy creations… right? Like… unicorns are a common species here, right? Unicorns are friendly… I can do unicorns…”
Foxichick looked at her new companion oddly. “You’re scared of the woods?”
“No, of course no-“ Candaru tried to say.
“Ah,” Foxichick replied, apparently seeing no need for further conversation. Candaru was beginning to grow fond of the other Animalistic- she wasn’t nosy like most of Candaru’s old friends.
“Well, I don’t even know what a unicorn is!” X informed, before interrupting himself. “Unless that’s a unicorn.”
The group all turned to look at what was most definitely not a unicorn. In fact, it was quite the opposite- a daunting, rather disgusting creature with dark green fur that looked like moss.
It had been said by many before not to judge a Creation by its appearance, but as it charged towards the group with it’s small yellow horns, it was quickly decided that this must be another Destroyer.
Impulsively, MCgamer quickly shot a stun blast at the Fantasylander and then promptly ran into the woods.
Growling, the two Anamalistics extended their claws at the same time and rushed at the creature, while Fanwizard and Indigo blocked it from escaping around the back.
The being looked around, clearly unused to having Creations take an offensive to it. It’s yellow eyes glowed dimly as it ran in circles like a giant shaggy carpet, attempting to stomp on the attackers.
It became clear why when it extended a small, hard claw from each dirty toe. But it was hardly a defense mechanism to the oncoming attacks of claws, blades, and… fans.
Whimpering at each slash, it gave up it’s attempt at foot-fighting and ran off into the deeper areas of the forest. MCgamer poked his head sheepishly out from behind a tree and rejoined the group, while Foxichick raised an eyebrow at him.
“Uhhh… Hey, guys…” he muttered, clearly shaken from the seemingly harmless creature.
“Do you want to talk about why you ran away?” Foxichick inquired him.
“Well, you guys seemed like you had it under control-“
“MCgamer, what’s wrong? Just spit it out,” Candaru cut in. He sighed.
“My wires are loose and I was worried I might blow up my arm again…” he mumbled quietly. While Candaru and LavaringX were utterly confused, the others seemed to understand exactly what was going on as they laughed to themselves.
“MCgamer doesn’t like having to tighten his wires; it’s apparently very painful. It’s like that invention some Creations wear called ‘braces,’” Foxichick explained. Fanwizard nodded.
“We do understand his discomfort, however, pain is essential to growth,” he said gravely. MCgamer rolled his eyes a little at the dramatic explanation as Foxichick opened a box on his back and started fiddling with the wires. She knew how to do it; as she had been traveling with the robot for quite some time, she knew how to fix him when he broke down, both on the outside and the inside.
“Guys, I’m fine. Just… let’s get going before EDO attacks us again,” he said, trying to ignore the pain. The others stared at him in confusion.
“Didn’t you hear him? Well, I guess I was a little further into the forest than you guys. I could still hear the creature as it was running away; it was whimpering, ‘EDO! EDO!’ So I assume that’s it’s name.”
The gang looked at one another and shrugged; apparently mutually deciding that EDO was a good name for the creature.
“Well then,” Foxichick said, “let’s keep going. We want to aim for being out of Fantasyland before dark.”
Once again, Candaru shivered at the thought of being stuck in the woods at dark, and she hurried to the front of the group.
“Ah, we’re gonna make it! I think I even see a light at the end of the tunne- er, forest!” said X. “Do you guys see it too?”
Candaru looked in the direction of the light. “Finally! We’re out of that creepy place.”
Candaru and the gang had finished backtracking through the forest that Candaru and X came out of and were finally beginning to walk along the path outside the forest more.
“See? I told you we would make it!” said X.
They were right - although the forest seemed big, it was actually much smaller than it appeared. All six Creations exhaled sighs of relief- they had made it.
“EDO was just some Destroyer-Creature the Dark Lord probably corrupted for the fun of it. We didn’t encounter anything dangerous and everything’s going to be alright!” X turned to Candaru. “You still worried about your friends? Or EDO?”
“I think EDO should be the least of our worries,” Indigo said in a monotone voice, making everyone jump in surprise.
“W-why, Silent Swordsman! Why do you speak at a time like this?” asked Fanwizard.
Indigo pointed a finger at a tattered sign that had been knocked down and was lying on a dirt road. Upon looking up, there were many shadowy figures above it, their eyes gleaming at the group. One of them seemed to have a tall top hat, and, judging by her silhouette, was raising up a stick- right at the center of the group. Indigo looked at the assemblage gravely.
“Because we are here.”
